Under general direction of the Vice Provost/Dean of the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) Extension, the Director of Marketing is responsible for establishing and implementing strategic marketing plans to support brand identity and to generate sales of specific programs and services. UCSC Extension is a fully self-supporting division of the university that creates and delivers non-degree professional development and continuing education programs and related services. The Director of Marketing plays a key role in generating student enrollments for existing programs and also in identifying opportunities for new program development. The Director of Marketing works with Extension’s academic department directors (product managers) to define and implement marketing strategies for specific product lines and customer segments. A thorough understanding of integrated marketing and customer information systems is essential for this position. Identifying new market niches and opportunities and conducting community and corporate outreach are also significant components of the position.
The director is responsible for day-to-day supervision of a staff of approximately 6 and an annual budget of $500,000 - $1,000,000 dollars. The Director of Marketing reports directly to the Vice Provost/Dean and is part of the senior management team of the organization.
Functions managed include: design and production of marketing materials, development and implementation of the Extension branding, direct marketing, management of mailing lists and customer database, customer response systems, copy writing and editing, media relations, public relations, advertising, community relations, special events, e-mail marketing, e-commerce, and market research.
Position is located in Cupertino, California
Qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, management, communication or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- At least 5 years mid to senior level management experience with skills for effective administration and leadership of a department with 6 or more staff
- Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing effective marketing and advertising campaigns
- Strong experience and skills in electronic marketing modalities including e-commerce Web sites and targeted e-mail marketing
- Marketing experience within a customer-oriented, revenue-generating organization
